We celebrated my nephew's second birthday on Sunday. The rock star themed party was so much fun, I thought that I'd share it with all of you.
Here is the guest of honor:
This is the only picture I took of the little man all evening. Two year olds move fast! I love how he's stomping on his guitar in this picture.
My sister set the stage by decorating her garage with lots of posters, like this one.
There were balloons too. And the tables were covered in red and sprinkled with rock and roll confetti and laid out with treat bags decorated with guitar stickers.
This is the cake/gift table. They had lots of toy guitars and microphones for the kiddos to play "rock star".
My sister asked me to design the invitations for the party to look like concert tickets. What a great idea! This is what I came up with. She used extra copies of the invites to decorate the walls between posters.
Don't forget, rock stars need tattoos! A tattoo station, with a variety of press-on tattoos was a fun place for guests to get temporarily "inked".
Everyone got a tattoo! Even me. You can't see it in the picture below, but mine said, "Love Kills Slowly". Nice. I let my sister choose for me. It was funny until I couldn't wash it off the next morning. I took my 77 year old grandma out for lunch yesterday and noticed that she still had an ornate bluebird on her forearm. I assume that it was leftover from the party...or I've been really unobservant for the last 32 years. lol.
These were pretty realistic. Here's a picture of my dad's press-on tattoo. Comparing tatts did make for a fun party activity.
No one was exempt, even my 82 year old grandpa got a fake tattoo. Here he is modelling my daughter's 4th of July headband. Isn't he cute?! I just love my grandpa!
And my niece, my sweet little one year old niece (in her rocker baby get-up)...
she got one too. Don't you just wanna squeeze those sweet chubby cheeks?!
I really enjoy summer parties. Guests were able to spread out between tables in the garage, on the deck, and in the lawn. Kids running crazy everywhere! Here are some party people relaxing before dinner on the back lawn.
Here's the spread...
My sister did a build-your-own-burger bar with all the fixin's including an assortment of cheese, garden fresh lettuce, tomato, and onion, plus traditional cookout food like potato salad, baked beans, and chips.
We sliced the cheese for the burgers right before the party and she stuck these cute little festive signs into cheese cubes to label the varieties.
And remember my 4th of July Lemon Star Cookies? I iced a few of them in green and paired with the red and blue cookies that I'd made for the 4th of July cookout the day before. They matched the Rock Star theme perfectly.
And for dessert...birthday cake, of course!
Feel free to duplicate any or all of the details of this party for your little rock star. It was so much fun!
What great party ideas! Looks like it was a huge hit.

ReplyDeleteDonna and Reeni, thank you especially for the ego boost! The summertime agrees with me. I get a little glow from the sun and eat a few more fruits and veggies. Come January, I'm hiding under my big sweaters and chugging down cream soups. lol.
What a cool party!! And I love the thing with your grandma LOL!

ReplyDeleteWhat a great party! The cake is awesome! Did you make that? Oh btw - baby oil takes the temporary tattoos off. Just an FYI for future undertakings of temporary tattoos. :) I agree - you look great!
